I must say I do love Eastern Washington. I only got to spend more time there after I met my fiance since his parents live in Moses Lake. I meander all over that place when I visit. It really is beautiful country and yes very sparsely populated but gorgeous. Very different from Western Washington which is equally beautiful. Go out and explore, you'll love it.

I am definitely a city girl, though I do love to spend vacations anywhere…just not living there.
I prefer the open spaces! I absolutely detest living in an apartment and that was the biggest change for me moving to France. I'm definitely a country girl and I would love to have my own house with a bit of land not so far from a town (perhaps not a city).
I have always lived in big(ish) cities, as long as I can remember. I do hanker for countryside, wide open spaces and horses grazing peacefully on lucious green fields…
Right now I live in a small but rapidly (over)developing city 15 minutes from London and 10 from said pretty countryside. It would have been near perfect except for the development companies out to make a quick buck building 'affordable' flats everywhere..urrgh.
It probably feels very peaceful and quiet for you compared to the bustle of Hong Kong right?
PS: Do all Americans drive massive trucks/4 wheel drives or is it simply a baseless stereotype?;-)
First, I prefer what you're seeing now.
To answer the question, which will explain why I prefer your view now…I grew up in Philadelphia before moving to Zürich. Was chuffed that the buildings weren't as tall, you could actually see snow covered mountains from your 1st floor apt, in summer it wasn't so stifling that you'd NEED to abandon the city over the weekends and suffer during the week while going to work/school. Really wide spaces, albeit not much. Switzerland is a densely populated country, but with so much greenery. It makes it difficult for those who do suffer from allergies, but you're guarantee your white clothes will stay white!!. Oh yeah, nonetheless, after moving here, I enjoy all that I mentioned and especially not feeling claustrophobic, which the pic of Hong Kong gives me, as it's too much a reminder of the place I left over two decades ago…..
@Flaming_star: I must say that the landscapes are gorgeous! I never expected that.
@kuesooM: I'm a city girl, too! I appreciate the beauty here but I need some noise, some cars, some excitement!
@kiwi: I totally understand what you mean when you say that apartment living is difficult! After living in my mom's house in Canada, it was an adjustment living in cramped quarters in France and in Hong Kong!
@sprite: Being only 10-15 minutes of London, you have the best of both worlds! Living on the edge of a big city is really ideal. As for the big cars, I've noticed a LOT of pickup trucks out here but I'm not sure if it's because the area is fairly rural/farmy.
@foosrock: Thanks for dropping in and sharing your perspective!! While I complained about the lack of space and dense population of Hong Kong, I think I really got used to it. I got used to the noise and disruption- so moving here has been a discombobulating experience! It's pretty here but sooo quiet and soooo isolated. I also don't like the fact that the distances are so large that you have to drive 30 minutes on the highway just to get to the next town! I think that Switzerland is a fantastic balance- lots of clean, fresh air, scenery, but still with a lot of culture and stuff happening. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, the country is fairly small so that you can get from one city to another easily, no? I can't wait to travel to Switzerland next year!
I'm fine as long as I'm not so far out into the boonies that I can't get back to civilization. I'm really learning to enjoy the outdoors now, but I prefer an hour or less to the big city.
Dude, where is this? Looks like 'sauga or Scarborough. Also looks like my old neighbourhood in the US. 😀
