I’m going to…Chile!

Thanks so much for weighing in on my dilemma, everyone!

I really appreciated your input and I have to say that many of you made compelling cases as to where I should go. I agonized over what to do, appealed to friends and acquaintances on Facebook, Skype, and Twitter for help, and annoyed Liebling with my indecisiveness.

Finally, I decided on Chile.

But why Chile?
A few reasons:

It is the destination that is the furthest away and the ticket there (if I had to pay for it myself) is the most expensive of the three countries. Tickets from Toronto (where I’m flying from) to Santiago, Chile, were about $1250 USD, even in low season. Tickets from Toronto to Bogota, Colombia were only about $750 USD, and the Toronto- Quito, Ecuador ticket was about $800 USD. They all required around the same amount of miles. Chile was the clear winner, in this respect.

I’ll be Guatemala right before going on this trip and wanted to go somewhere that would prove to be a stark contrast. I may be wrong, but I tend to think that Guatemala is more culturally similar to Colombia and (especially) Ecuador. Variety is the spice of life!

I really want to travel all over Colombia and Ecuador, but sadly, a week is not enough time for me to go and explore all of the places in those countries that I’d like to!

Chile has the Andes. Nuff said.

-I don’t drink wine, but it would be cool to go on a wine-tasting tour.

I might try and make it to the San Pedro de Atacama desert. It looks amazing!

– I only have a week there and probably won’t get the chance to go Patagonia or into the southern part of the country, but it’s still kind of cool to say I (nearly) went to the end of the world!

I’ll have the chance to stalk…erm, I mean… meet, two of my favourite bloggers who live in Santiago, the lovely Kyle Hepp and Emily. I’m so excited!

I can’t wait to go!
