Ladies, what is your favourite clothing store?

BY ONEIKA RAYMOND

Serious shopping? Indeed.

A friend at work complimented me on my cardigan today and asked me where I got it from. “H&M,” I replied, “where I get ALL of my clothes”. I was half joking until I looked down at the rest of my outfit and it struck me that, in fact, my WHOLE outfit today (excluding the shoes, but including my grey pants, white t-shirt worn under the cardigan, my leopard print scarf) came from H&M. Upon further reflection I realized that even my HAIR ELASTIC was from there.

Talk about being a poster girl. I should buy shares in the company.

Today’s outfit, brought to you courtesy of H&M

Oh, why do I adore Hennes and Mauritz so? Like a vacuum, it sucks up my monthly paycheck mercilessly. When I walk past its windows at its downtown Hong Kong location, the impeccably dressed mannequins use their powers of seduction on me, wielding their waxen, mannequin-y wiles to lure me in like a hooked worm does a fish. Never one to resist flirtation, I am drawn into the store’s depths, vowing to “only” try on and never to buy, yet emerging from the store with a large plastic bag and a lighter wallet.

Full-frontal view of the ‘fit

I like H&M for its combination of what I call “classic/trendy yet affordable” fashion. The pant-legs are always long enough for my seemingly interminable gams and the seat and rise of most of the pants manage to cover and give enough room for my somewhat ample caboose. I especially like their professional wear- the structured, non-fussy blazers and pants, appropriately-lengthed skirts, and crisp dress shirts can make one office-ready quickly, easily, and for relatively little coin. They have funkier stuff for going out/clubbing (some of which borders on dreckitude), but I don’t mess around with any of that. My simple trendy separates suit me just fine.

The Queen’s Road H&M in Hong Kong where I spend most of my free time

I just took out a pencil and a piece of scrap paper and did the calculation (yeah, we old school like that) of the grand total of my outfit. I realized that the whole kit and kaboodle only cost me about $60 USD, which ain’t bad at all. That said, I think that I look like a million bucks *wink*. But really, now, who can argue with such a bon rapport qualité-prix? Not I.

So ladies, what are some of your favourite clothing stores? Which stores help you “suit up” your sexy?

Yeah, I'm an H&M girl but also a Zara girl too. Actually, just give me good price and decent quality and I'm there.

  • Girl, you are too funny when you said " I realized that even my HAIR ELASTIC was from there." HAHAHAHHA !!

For some reasons H&M and I just don't get along. I know that they are affordable stuffs but I can't find anything that will makes me look attractive and professional( triste).
When I see some of my co-workers clothes and ask then where they buy them from; they tell me that they are from H& M.( Sad for me ). Anyways, You look TRES CHIC dans tes habits and they fit you well.

I usually shop a lot at J.Crew, The Limited, Banana Republic, and Ann Loft Taylor… They make me look Awesome!!!!!!!!! lolllllllllll

  • Who doesn't love H&M great clothing for a reasonable prices. Love it. I also love Old Navy, the Gap, Target, and Macy's but I'll shop anywhere there's a good sale and some great clothes. LOL.

  • I can't remember when but once I recognized one of your shirts as something H&M that you wore in pictures. I love that store too! I like H&M and Forever 21. Neither of which exist in Chile. For more expensive stuff I mostly shop online at Gilt Group.

  • I love H&M, especially since it's everywhere so it's my go-to wherever I am in the world. But now that I'm home in Canada, I really, really, REALLY miss Sfera, Stradivarius, Bershka and Pimkie!

  • I am a J.Crew girl myself — I love all of their 30% off coupon codes. I also love anthropologie but don't go there too often because it is a little too rich for my blood.

  • @alero: i just went to zara yesterday and spent a ton of money… one of my favs as well!

@rhona: thanks lady! i cannot afford BR unfortunately but me and costa blanca be as thick as thieves!!

@tanya: i hear that!! i think that's why im a fan of both stores… fashion and class on a budget… i MUCH prefer european zara to north american or asia zara… i've even gotten amazing shoes in zara… loves it!

@nathanz: h&m doesn't work for you!?!? say it aint so!!! as for the other stores you mentioned… you've got expensive tastes.. 😉 i can't afford to shop at any of those!!! lol

@flaming: you know what? i never got on the Gap/old navy train- not sure why but their clothes don't fit me well at all!!

@mamacita: Ooooh I LOOOOVE forever 21! i was first introduced to it when i was going to school in windsor (which shares a border with detroit)… then it came to canada a few years ago! none in asia though. 🙁

@xtine: i LOVE bershka as well, but didn't discover it until i moved to mexico, strangely enough… i vaguely remember it from my days in france but i figured it was out of my reach financially! i dont think we have bershka in hk.

@d: you know, i have never never never been in j. crew (is it only in the states?). are the clothes similar to banana republic? also, one of my co-workers here in hk is american and LOVES anthropologie (which i never heard of until she told me about it). there aren't any stores in hk, but she orders all of her stuff from them online!

  • you look so cute in your H&M outfit! I wish I could throw outfits together like that!

I love H&M too, and there are tons in France so I spend a lot of my time shopping there. In France, I also love Xanaka and Pimkie for the pants because I'm the size of a 12 year old girl on the bottom.

In Canada, I really like Suzy Shier, American Eagle and Old Navy for comfy clothes!

  • @Crystal: I love Pimkie and Suzy Shier as well! I like Pimkie for their cheap going out clothes and Suzy Shier for work separates/basics. As for your slim lower half, have you ever tried the pants in Sirens/Urban Behaviour/Costa Blanca? The sizing there runs very small and the styles are cute! That might be an option for you (because H&M runs a little bigger in size)!

  • I miss H&M sooo much, Zara too! But like I said in my tweet…Calypso will ALWAYS have my heart. 3/4 of my closet is from there!!!

  • I love Forever 21 and H&M. Am I the only one that thinks Zara is a little bit expensive? 🙁 I love the clothes though!!

    • I’ve found Zara to be extremely expensive outside of Spain! But I also love the clothes.
