Updatage: My travels in April, May, June and July

BY ONEIKA RAYMOND

An update on my recent and forthcoming peregrinations.

I wasn’t kidding when I said that travel was revving up.  In my last update post, I semi-whinged about travelling so much lately that I can’t keep up with blogging about it. (Somewhere, a thousand tiny violins are playing, and a few people just rolled their eyes.)

But seriously, things are busy and my blog posts are behind.  I’ve had some fantastic experiences lately that I’m itching to expound on as soon as I have the time. For now, though, here’s an update on where I’ve been recently and where I’m going.

Where I’ve been: April and May

Lille, France

Hot on the heels of our trip to Egypt (we got back from there April 1st), Liebling and I jumped the border went to Lille mid-month.  Lille is only a 1 hour and 20 minute high-speed train ride from London, and thus a perfect weekend trip, especially for those who love food (we stuffed our faces all weekend).

Ravensburg, Germany

We visited friends in this tiny Bavarian town (known by most for being the home of Ravensburger board game company).  The city, located half-way between Munich and Zurich, is fairly close to the Alps and the Neuschwanstein Castle (the one that inspired the iconic Disneyland castle).  Sadly, it poured rain the whole three days we were there, so we mostly stayed inside and caught up with our friends.  We also stuffed our faces all weekend with tasty German food (are you beginning to see a pattern here?). I  didn’t bring my computer and barely took any pictures.

Sierra Nevada, Spain

I’ve already written a bit about this blogger trip I was invited on last month. We were hosted by Minube and the Sierra Nevada Tourism Board, who organized a slew of activities (including skiing, sailing, and a helicopter ride!) to help us learn more about this part of Spain. More posts are forthcoming!

Lisbon, Portugal

This Monday Liebling and I just got back from three days in Lisbon. We visited Lisbon proper and did a day trip out to see the royal palaces of Sintra and the beach of Cascais.  The weather was amazing, the vast amounts of seafood and Portuguese pastries I ingested made me vow to detox myself upon my return to London. So far I’ve been successful, but I’m hungry all the time and have pasteis de nata on the brain!

Where I’m going: May, June, July

Good weather and cheap plane tickets mean I’ll be doing a large amount of Eurotripping in the next few months. I’ll be off to:

Berlin, Germany (May)- I leave this afternoon for three days in Liebling’s hometown! It’s Mother’s Day in Germany on Sunday and we’re planning on spending some quality time with his mama.  I’m also going to meet up with a relatively new mother over the weekend: my friend Nicole is the New Black had a baby recently! I am baby crazy so can’t wait to meet her beautiful bundle of joy!

Rome and the Amalfi Coast, Italy (May)- The following week I’m meeting my mom in Italy! The country is a favourite of mine but my mom as never been.  Liebling will join us for the first couple of days and then we will be left to do some serious mother-daughter bonding.

Edinburgh, Scotland (May)- Right after Italy I’m running the Edinburgh Half Marathon with dear friends and fellow bloggers Fned and Kyle Hepp! Liebling and Fned’s hubby are running the full marathon. Eek!

Copenhagen, Denmark (June)- Liebling and I are spend the weekend here in early June. At the beginning of the year I found dirt cheap tickets ($115 USD for round trip flights between London and Copenhagen). Obviously I booked them immediately.

Amsterdam, Netherlands (June)- Liebling used to live here so will show me all his favourite spots in the city over a weekend.

Luxembourg City, Luxembourg (June)- I’ll be joining a few other bloggers and journalists on this three day trip organized by the Luxembourg Tourism Board. I know nothing about Luxembourg except that it has great nightlife.

Croatia, Bosnia, and Montenegro (July)- I’ve gone sailing in Croatia, but haven’t been to Bosnia or Montenegro. Liebling and I are going to explore the region for 8 days in July.

Have you been to any of these places? Do you have any upcoming travel plans?
