Bolivia Sneak Peek

BY ONEIKA RAYMOND

A sneak peek of our last few days in Bolivia. Greetings from Bolivia!

This will be a short and poorly written post because: a) my internet connection is absolutely TRAGIC and b) I’m about to head out on a long day and night of travel, and, as usual am behind schedule. But I wanted to share the few pictures the struggle wifi here in my hotel would allow me to upload. (Bolivia I love you but maaaaan, can a blogger get a break?! I need to keep up with my posts!)

For reference, this is Day 4 of 17 in Bolivia. We started in La Paz and made our way up to a town called Copacabana, which is right near the Peruvian border and on the shores of the gorgeous Lake Titicaca. This afternoon we head back to La Paz via boat and bus (approximately 4 hours), then, once there, hang out for another two hours before taking a 10 hour night bus to Uyuni, location of the world renowned Uyuni Salt Flats.  For someone who gets motion sick even on a short car ride, I’m not looking forward to all the time we’re about to spend in moving vehicles.  But you gotta do what you gotta do, right?! #seetheworld

This trip has been bizarrely plagued with altitude sickness. La Paz and Copacabana are located at approximately 12,000 feet above sea level, which messes with you if you are coming from a place at a low altitude, like we are (majestic NYC, perched handsomely on the Atlantic, is basically at zero elevation) . As a result, we’ve spent much of our time in high-flying Bolivia with pesky headaches, fatigue, and nausea: even a short walk up a flight of stairs makes the heart race faster than Usain Bolt in the 100-meter dash. But, ever optimistic, every day gets better and we are better able to cope.

Another quick aside: Bolivia is definitely bucket list material. The country, along with majority of the other places in South America I have visited, is SO. VISUALLY. STUNNING. The colours are vibrant, the sky is clear, and the air is frighteningly crisp and clean, especially at high elevation. Given this, it pains me that so many travellers (particularly Americans and Canadians) sleep on visiting the region because of fear, stereotypes, and half-truths about safety. People, you are really missing out!

At any rate, enough babbling; here are a few visuals. Jesus be good wifi and a fast upload speed so I can post some more over the course of the trip! Hasta luego and godspeed.
