Capri

BY ONEIKA RAYMOND

While in Sorrento, Liebling and I took the 40-minute ferry to the island of Capri, which is said to be mystical and absolutely gorgeous. We were not disappointed! The island and views were breath-taking. The island of Capri consist of two regions: Capri and Anacapri. Our ferry dropped us off at the port of Capri town and we walked up what is called the “300 steps” to arrive at the beautiful centre of Capri town, of which the main drag is lined with luxury stores like Gucci and Louis Vuitton. We took a chair lift (very precarious and scary to me, though the 20-minute ride up was very peaceful) to the highest point of the island where we had views of the blue waters of Tyrrhenian Sea (an offshoot of the Mediterranean) and of one of the symbols of the island, the Faraglione rock formation.

We took a mini-bus to the western part of the island where Anacapri is located, and toured the quieter and decidedly less-glitzy streets. We also had the opportunity to visit the famed Blue Grotto (which is located on this part of the island). The Blue Grotto is a cave (one of the few worldwide) that has brilliant blue in its confines. The pictures can’t adequately capture the colour of the water, but rest assured that it was fantastic.

I can’t stop raving about Capri, but I think I’ll stop this post here and let the pictures speak for themselves. Definitely a must-see.
