I simply got the keys to my new flat in Hong Kong. And haven’t yet relinquished the old one. My new landlord was nice enough to give me two weeks rent-free in my new flat, which gives me the opportunity to slowly move stuff from my old flat before I have to give it up on September the 14th. I have opted to move my stuff using my own elbow grease (as opposed to hiring a mover like a normal person), since my new flat is within walking distance from my old one, and downhill to boot. Therefore, I just can’t support the expense of hiring a mover to move my three medium-sized suitcases (and the odd box of stray accoutrements) not even 500 metres to my new place. I have two good legs and my suitcases have wheels. Also, I currently live right next to the Central Mid-Levels Escalator (the longest outdoor escalator in the world!) and the new flat is right beside it as well, so I have been riding the escalator to my new flat with all my stuff in tow ( but only in the early- mornings when the escalator is still running in the downward direction).
Having stuff scattered between two flats has been a tad harrowing though. The other day I was searching, without success, for one of my favourite black “clubbing” tops. After turning my old flat upside down in a fruitless search for this seemingly innocuous piece of clothing, I realized that I had trucked that, as well most of my other tops, down the road to my new place. I agree. Keep that moving money in your pockets for travel (well, that is what I would have done anyway-hehe). And, with the escalators, things look to be easier. As for your missing top, all par de course in moving. It gives life….adventure. 🙂
