I didn’t do much shopping while in Bali (shocking!), but I did manage to get myself a pair of leather sandals while there. They have tons of handmade leather goods being sold in the stores there, from purses and satchels, to wallets and sandals. When shopping in Bali, one has to bargain, and bargain hard. A friend of mine who lived in Indonesia for five years told me that the consumer should only offer a third of the asking price, and be ready for negotiations to start from there. I’m not the best bargainer (can’t bother going back and forth over prices), but I still got a decent deal on the sandals. The vendor was selling them for 300,000 Indonesian Rupiah ($30 USD), and I ended up getting them for 150,000 ($15). Not bad since they were exactly what I was looking for!
