New Year’s Eve in Berlin… And around the world!

New Year’s in Berlin ROCKED. And here’s the proof.


We ate, we laughed, we nearly blew our faces off when we set off store-bought fireworks.  Twas a fabulous time, and gave me insight into how Germans fete the passing of one year into another.  You may remember that I also spent New Year’s in Germany in 2009, but I was way too sick to do little more than clutch my stomach in pain in the room adjacent to where the festivities were taking place.  Needless to say, I was grateful to be in good enough health this year (erm, last year? You know what I mean!) to participate in all the fun.

One thing I noted: New Year’s fireworks in Germany (heck in most places in the world other than the U.S. and Canada) seem to be commonplace. Back in Canada, we only have fireworks on Victoria Day (in May) and Canada Day (July 1st).  In the U.S., I’m lead to believe that such resplendent fireworks display happen on July 4th.  Why is that?

Anyway, I do hope that you enjoyed my little video… and will promptly watch the two videos that follow! Below I’ve included NYE video from friends and fellow travel bloggers/ expats/ fabulous fearless adventurers Nicole is the New Black and Fly Brother.  Check out Nicole as she enchants us with her family-friendly New Year’s Eve in Copenhagen, Denmark.  Fly Brother tantalizes us with his NYE celebration in sizzling hot Rio de Janeiro (and I’m not just talking about the climate).  Both these videos continue to shed light on the expat experience and how New Year’s goes down in these countries.     But anyway, there are usually some form of fireworks in big cities on NYE, but I was so surprised in Paris when there were no fireworks NOR any real countdown… Interesting…
