Peru Sneak Peek

BY ONEIKA RAYMOND

At Machu Picchu

I’m back from my two week jaunt to South America and I have some good news and some bad news.

First, the bad: we didn’t make it to Bolivia as planned. Time wasn’t in our favour, and laziness was on our side.  We couldn’t bear to go through what we’ve heard can be a tricky border crossing from Peru into Bolivia (it can take hours to go through customs), and were uninterested in rushing to tick off another destination. As a result, I will have to wait a little longer before sinking my teeth into Bolivia, at least until I can give it the time and  attention it deserves.

The good news, then?  Peru was so cool, so geographically and physically diverse, that I didn’t lament not crossing over into Bolivia for one moment.

I can’t WAIT to share my stories and photos with you, when I catch up on work and sleep.

Until such time, here is a sneak peek of our two weeks in Peru:

Is Peru some place you think you’d like to go?  If you’ve already been, what was your favourite city or region in the country?

  • Wow! This brings back some very fresh memories! While I have to say that, for me, the border crossing between Bolivia and Peru was easy as pie, I think it’s best that you saw Peru in more detail and saved Bolivia for another time, rather than rushing them both. They’re both countries that deserve a lot of time and attention. Glad you had fun, and I love the photos!

    • Thanks! Will be hitting you up for tips when I make it there!

  • I spent 2 weeks in the Ica Region near Paracas, Peru. There is an amazing hostel called Kokopelli and if you are a guest, they can help you make reservations with a kite surfing school. I love this country and I will be going back in October 2014. You are such an inspiration to me with all of your travels. I’ve only been to 9 different countries but I hope to visit 4 more this year.
    Safe travels!
