Seoul Metro

BY ONEIKA RAYMOND

During our stay in Seoul, we had the opportunity to get very well acquainted with the underground transport system. The city and outlying area is massive, so it’s comforting to know that, as a tourist, you can easily schlep around the city, as you please, without worry of how to get somewhere.

To that end, the Seoul metro is fast, convenient, and cheap (we never paid more than 2500 won per ride- about $2.20 USD, and cheaper for shorter rides). For this reason, the Seoul metro is always packed with people riding its dizzying amount of lines. Every route we took was packed, except when we travelled in the morning after the “get to work” rush hour. So forget about getting a seat if you’re travelling during peak times.

I also loved people-watching on the metro. Koreans have such a funky and eclectic style. Checking out their fashions was a great way to pass the time, especially during the longer rides.

Also worth mentioning were the interactive, touch-sensitive maps (very much resembling Google maps) that allowed you to chart your surroundings. For tech-crazy Liebling this gadget was a huge bonus.
