Sneak Peek: The Maldives

BY ONEIKA RAYMOND

A few pics of our Maldivian holiday.

Did I mention that I’m on the road again?  Since I had all last week off (gotta love those school holidays!) Liebling and I decided to take off and explore Sri Lanka and the Maldives. At the risk of sounding cliche, these last 10 days travelling have been spectacular!  Of particular note are the extremely friendly Sri Lankans and Maldivians we have come across who have made us feel so welcome in their home. For those not in the know, I have been sharing mini-updates and reflections on both my Facebook page and Instagram, so have a look there for words on and pics of  my adventures.   More tips and tricks for where to go/eat/sleep in both countries are coming, but for now, I leave you with a few pictures of the Maldives, which is really a stunner! We vetoed staying in an expensive resort (where rooms will run you about $500 USD per night — no Ma’am!) and instead decided to stay in a reasonably priced hotel in Maafushi, a local island that is more in line with our budget and interests. So look out for a post soon on how we did the Maldives without spending an arm and a leg — it can be done!  At any rate, enough rambling. I’ll end this dispatch here as the beach is calling me…  I have one more day in paradise and then head back to Hong Kong early Tuesday morning!

And that’s it for my teaser of the Maldives! What do you think? Have you ever been?

My friend flew in to visit (she stopped in Srilanka first) and we met up at the airport in Male. It was one of those YOLO kinda things. Maldives was always on my list but it was one of those ‘reach’ items…so…I HAD to go when I was sooo close. I visited in May 2014.
