So ridiculously busy/ On the road again!

BY ONEIKA RAYMOND

Firstly, I’m leaving for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in a few hours! I’m going for three days with a friend. This is my last trip before leaving Asia for good in two weeks!

Second of all, thanks for all your helpful advice on my last post!!!
I appreciate your comments. I’m still on the fence with regards to what to do, but your insight is definitely going to help me make a decision!

Thirdly… Okay, so I am BUSY and a bit stressed. The end of the school year, coupled with having to make preparations to MOVE CONTINENTS in two weeks, has got me pulled in all kinds of different directions, yall.

Here are a few other reasons I’m stressed:

– The school year is drawing to a close and exams are in session. I have 47 essays that my English lit students wrote for their exam a couple of days ago. I have 43 French exams coming my way after my students sit their exams on Tuesday. Eep!

-After grading all those exams, I still have to do report cards (
with comments!) for my 90 students. *sad face*

-I’m leaving Hong Kong for good in approximately two weeks. Lots of administrative red tape to wade through before my departure. I have to call the cable/internet/phone guys to cut off my service and do all kinds of paperwork for insurance, benefits, and the like. If you know me, you know that I hate paperwork.

– I HAVE to start packing and weeding through the massive amount of clothes I own. I desperately need to purge my closet… because there’s no way I’ll be able to bring all this stuff back to North America. Nor do I want to.

– I only have one real weekend left in Hong Kong to: say goodbye to friends/organize all the admin tasks I talked about above/ pack and figure out how I’m going to haul this stuff with me back to North America.

– I have to prepare a number of things for the summer courses I’ll be taking this summer. I’ve sorted out when I’m doing my thesis defense, but have to sort out other mundane things like getting to the university from the airport (there are in two different towns) and… well, where the heck I’m going to live for the month that I’ll be taking courses. Actually, I’ve applied to live in the student dorms (yuck) but am still waiting for confirmation.

-Also:
In the last couple of weeks, I’ve been to countless dinners/lunches/work parties, and have had family in town visiting. I also have a friend, my last visitor in Hong Kong *sniff!*, arriving next Tuesday and staying for a week.

So umm… yeah. I’ve been busy.

Here are pics of what I’ve been up to in the last little bit.

Out with friends

Family coming to visit

Celebrating the end of the school year with work colleagues

So what have you been up to in the last little while? Do you find this time of year particularly busy for you? Why or why not?

  • Woot Woot..Have the greatest time in KL ! A visit to the Twin Tower is a must ! 🙂

  • Usually it's not that busy this time of year but I'm in the midst of planning my wedding for September and I've now gone from teaching 2 classes a week to four classes a week for my paralegal studies courses. Yea I'm keeping it together. But you look like you're having fun your last days in HK. Enjoy!

  • Yikes! Good luck closing shop in HK. It will be a nice releif once you are on that plane and you can move onto the next one.
Have fun in KL. I am sure it will be really fun.

  • I don't know how you make time to blog???

Much congrats on your finishing up this adventure, on to the next one-Well Done and have fun!

I'm in Human Resources, we're always busy-come Friday, me and the hubby are planning our weekend getaway-I'm thinking Napa Valley for wine tasting?

  • I think you should send all the purged clothes to Chile. I'm happy to help you lighten your suitcases 🙂

  • Wow! It must be a bit frustrating have to do all that whenever you move!

  • i'm with you. assessments, report cards, packing up a classroom, moving to another country! oy! have fun your last few weeks in asia!

  • OMG Oneika, I just realized I never replied back to your comment !!! *ashamed* !!!

I am also kicking at myself for not having contacted you before… Hubby and I travelled to Hong Kong on a 10 day vacation last December and I would have loved to meet up IF MY THICK HEAD had thought about it!!!

I can't wait for you to move to London (you ARE still moving right?, I have a lot of reading to catch up on) and right that wrong!!

In the meantime, all the best of luck in these last final weeks, I know how it feels to be changing homes, countries, continents and the last days are usually stressful, but it always turns out ok.

Take care, enjoy your weekend in Malaysia and good luck !!!

    Fned xx

  • This is crazy. I had a dream last night/this morning that you called me to meet you at a cafe in AMS and I saw you through the window, sitting with a carry-on, but when I got inside you were gone! No lie!

Happy trails and good luck with the preparations.

  • Aww, I hope you can manage to get through all you have to do! I totally destest paperwork too so completely understand. I also hate speaking on the phone, prefering -horror of horror's- emails when communicating as a rule.
Thing is- can we really escape paperwork, not these days. It's part and parcel of modern life and here to stay:-(
Prepare to be faced with a ton of it here in the UK…
Best of luck and enjoy your break in Kuala Lumpur!

  • oh wow I got heart palpitations just reading everything you have to do! I hate administration too, and I will be doing my fair share in the next 3 months as we prepare to move to the Alps. I know it's nothing compared to moving continents though!

Have a blast these last few weeks and things will work out just the way they are supposed to!

P.S. Love that white sleevless blouse with the black hearts that you are wearing in one pic!

  • I can sympathise on so many fronts – so much I have to do, so many things I want to do – but no international move for me this year! Good luck with everything and keep finding the time to blog!

  • The time of year doesn't impact my schedule because I'm not teaching I suppose, but I do have lots going on. By the way…are you able to pop over to the Gagosian before you leave — or seed a friend?

Also, I don't have a camera rec but if you do decide to undertake some light editing here's a good site and it's free.

Thanks again, for sharing your travels with us. It's much appreciated. I'm looking forward to your London adventures.

  • I got a job producing a feature film here in London! Got offered a job to go work on a feature documentary in Brazil which i had to turn down because im backpacking America. New York to LA and Seattle then back again to New York then London.

Cant wait to catch up with you when your in Europe!

  • Oh wow! only two weeks that's so crazy! You are busy! Good luck getting anything done!

    Love the pics.

  • @Tiq: Thanks!! We took the photos in front of them.. Very impressive!

@Flaming: Good luck with your wedding planning! Geez that's coming up soon! When's the honeymoon? Where?

@Rhona: Can't wait until all the prep for leaving is over!!

@tanya: Thank you! Ooh! How was Napa? What type of HR do you do? My friend is in HR and she does recruiting and loves it!

    @Emily: LOL! What's your address?? 😉

@liveletlive: Yes, it's the worst part!! Argh!

@SinglePAP: Thank you! When are you off to your next adventure, again? Teaching is awesome, but grading and reporting is hell!

@Fned!!!!!!!!!!! OMG lady it's been so long! So great to hear from you! Bummer that we didn't link up while you were in HK, but I AM still moving to London! I'll be there by mid-October so we definitely have to meet! What's your email addy? Drop me a line!

@Viajera: haha that's amazing! How much longer will you be in AMS? It's definitely on my hit list! Would love to meet! Will you be in Toronto this summer?

@Sprite: I JUST looked at the application for the UK work visa and wanted to ram my head up against the wall! I hate hate hate paperwork, but you're right, it comes with the territory… 🙁

@Crystal: I totally get what you mean! And I just finished reading your posts about having "one of those days" and can relate %100! Thanks for the compliment on the top- I got it from H&M (of course! lol)! When are you back in Toronto/St. Cat's?

@Canedolia: Thank ya!! Paris must be lovely right now- What I wouldn't give to be there, away from all these moving preparations! 🙂

@Faith: Thanks for the rec!! Unfortunately, won't be able to make it to the Gagosian gallery before I go, but I really should try because it's right up the street from my apartment!!

@Cherry: Congrats, girl!!! You are doing big things! I've been keeping up with your exploits on FB.. 😉 Hey, when will you be in NYC? I just booked a ticket- will be there Aug 4 to 9! Would be great if we could hang, otherwise, see you on the other side of the pond…

@Deidre: Thanks, lady! I know, it's only 10 days, now… Yowzers!! How's the flat hunt going?! Sorry to hear about the one you applied for.. 🙁

  • I'll have the chocolate strawberries and red wine please.

  • Hi Oneika, thanks for commenting on my blog!

I am SO jealous of your globetrotting ways. I wish I had a job that bring me to asia or europe (I do get to travel to remote places in canada…whoopdedoo). Love reading about your travels.

And your clothes!! Send me the ones you weed out (:

  • @Monique: They were "hot sellers"… I didn't even get to taste one before they were gone! At least I got a photo…

@emahlee: Ooh! You're lucky you get to travel Canada! I'm embarrassed to admit that I've only been to B.C., Quebec, and Ontario!

  • Love your style! The necklace you're wearing in the pictures of you in the gray empire waist dress… where did you get it? I saw my friend wearing something similar the other day, but it was a gift and she didn't know where the person bought it!

  • @girlunstoppable: Thanks!! I actually bought the necklace at a street market in Nice, France!! I've also seen them in the markets here in Hong Kong. Maybe you could check San Fran Chinatown?

  • @Oneika, the wedding is Sept. 10th so about 89 days to go, closer than I thought till I checked calendar. And we are going on honeymoon close to home in beautiful Oregon, it's such a gorgeous state but so understated and quiet. We're going to a resort that is a brewery and winery outside Portland. We'd go further but have to watch the budget, we're also setting up house so all new furnishings. But we'll have a wonderful time. You certainly look like you are 🙂
