Before I go ahead and tell you about Sketch, let me get something off my chest: I know, I know, I really need to write about London more. The truth is that I often take living in London for granted. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I know that I am lucky to live and work here, to have all these cool things to do at my fingertips, but since making London my homebase, I barely bring my camera out with me, let alone write about my London escapades on this blog. But I’m going to change that… Starting by reviving my “Stepping out in London” series, where I chronicle all the funky places I come across in Londontown. Deal? Deal. Ahem.
So, guilty rant out of the way, let me tell you a little bit about Sketch. Sketch is a restaurant/bar/club in the centre of London, literally a 3 minute walk from the chaotic shopping madness that is Oxford Street. The establishment is one of those super posh places whose ambient lighting, French cuisine, and fussy decor will make you automatically curl your pinky when you drink their tea. I had already been to the nightclub there on two different occasions (I must say, the nights I was there they played the BEST old school hip hop and house I’ve heard in a long time) but had never had the opportunity to try their food. The last time I was there I wondered aloud to Liebling how Sketch fared as a restaurant. I’ve written before about eating out in London– I do it a lot and am always looking for new places to try.
So when my blogger friend Milla suggested that me and blogger extraordinaire Lady in London meet her there for some lunch and blogger girl talk I was positively tickled. We met there on a Saturday afternoon last month and vociferously studied the menu. Choosing what to eat suddenly became a daunting task: should we get the quiche lorraine or the soup? Indulge in a full English afternoon tea complete with buttery scones or be good girls and get the salad? Or skip the mains and go straight for dessert?
Feeling too cheap pay the 30-odd quid for the full afternoon tea option, I decided on a quiche, a pot of tea, and piece of chocolate cake. I think the meal cost me under 20 pounds (under $30 USD), which is fair for the venue and location.
Submerged in conversation with my counterparts, I came up for air long enough to take note of the food: the quiche was delicious but the portion small. The piece of cake appeared deceptively small but I was unable to finish it all for its richness. It, too, was yummy.
The best part of Sketch, however, were the restrooms.
Straight out of the Jetson’s, this futuristic water closet was both utilitarian and comely. Is it weird that I wanted to spend a lot of time there? We spent at least 10 minutes taking pictures of the toilet.
The restrooms alone make Sketch worth a visit.

Those bathrooms are so cute!! I love weird and wacky bathrooms. The ones in the Wetherspoons by Baker Street station are especially memorable. The food sounds good but perhaps a little underwhelming for the price.

Looks like a fun, interesting bathroom but what’s the huge circular dome in the middle of the floor and how do you wash your hands?
There are sinks in the corner but not sure what the domes are for!
