The Weekend Traveller

BY ONEIKA RAYMOND

It’s scarily late (1:37 am on a weekday!) and I really should be in bed. Instead, I’m hurriedly packing a bag of my personal effects, searching for my passport, and checking the weather forecast online. The reason? This weekend, like many others lately, I’m off for a weekend away.

Such is the life of a gal who is trying to balance her love of travel with a full-time job. I’ve been using my weekends to load up on travel experiences and take advantage of the fact that London is only a two hour plane/train ride from a number of major destinations in Europe.

I usually only travel two weekends out of the month, but now I have a new record: for the next month I am travelling 4 weekends in a row. I was in York last weekend, heading to Nice, France this weekend (leaving tomorrow afternoon!), going to Berlin the weekend after that, then topping it off by going to Cornwall the 4th weekend.

Whew.

The York Minster, one of York’s biggest attractions

I must admit its a bit exhausting, but some great travel opportunities have come up that couldn’t turn down (I went to York as a guest of the tourism boards Visit York and Visit England, for example). And of course, the best part: sharing the resulting stories with you and hopefully inspiring you to check out some of the places I’ve been… come to love!

Do you do a lot of weekend trips? Where have you gone? (And most importantly, what do you pack? Stayed tuned for a packing post from me!)

Psst! Don’t forget to “like” me on Facebook if you haven’t already! Your support is much appreciated!
