To be honest, I didn’t think that I would be impressed with Bali. I was prepared to hate it, if only because so many people rave about the place. Previous experiences have taught me to be wary of places that are over-hyped. After all, as much as people rave about Barcelona, it just wasn’t my cup of tea. I also was not wowed by Prague, though people act as though the city is the coolest thing since sliced bread. Hence, my expectations were low. I didn’t think it would be so great.
Boy, was I wrong.
First, the basics: we spent 11 nights in Bali. The trip had been in the works for a while; Liebling and I purchased the tickets way back in November. We had decided that we were in dire need of a beach vacay, and neither of us had never been. The price was right so we booked with no hesitation.
Five months later, I boarded an Air Asia flight to Kuala Lumpur, where I met Liebling. Then we took another flight from KL to Denpasar, Bali’s airport.
We landed late that night, collected our luggage, and made our way to our hotel.
The Royal Beach Seminyak was all that we could have ever asked for: clean rooms, lovely staff, an amazingly tasty buffet breakfast, and located right on the beach. But I wouldn’t discover that until the next morning. For the moment, I was too focused on jumping into the inviting bed and resting my tired bones.
The next morning, after a delicious night of sleep, we descended upon the beautiful breakfast area where we ate to our hearts’ content. 
We then checked out the lush greenery surrounding the hotel. The grounds were absolutely flawless.
Tired from the copious meal and exploring in the hot sun, we did what any good vacationer would do: got ourselves two sunbeds at the poolside. Liebling slathered on sunscreen, I put on my big floppy hat and broke out my book, and we were good to go!
After sunning ourselves, reading a little, and taking a quick dip in the pool, we ventured down the the beach, located only about 200 metres from the pool side. All I can say is that the Indian Ocean is stunning!
Not a bad way to spend one’s first hours in stunning Bali! Any doubts I had about the place quickly disappeared. I was officially hooked, and couldn’t wait for more.

Wow! Bali looks amazing! You guys look happy and refreshed. I wish I could go on a beach vacay instead of freezing in Ottawa.
What a gorgeous place! I would love to go to Bali, but for now we're not planning on going anywhere in Asia because it's such a long trip from Chile. It makes more sense to see other places now and explore Asia when we're based in CA again at some point in the future.
hmmmmmm maybe i should head to bali for my birthday….
