The 2013 Freize Art Festival  is held in London’s Regents Park between 17th and 20th October 2013. Now in its 11th year, the Festival will feature more than 150 leading contemporary art galleries from across the world. Leading galleries from Berlin, Tokyo and New York will sit alongside their British counterparts.

Alongside the Festival is the Frieze Masters exhibition, and an array of accompanying exhibits and attractions such as film, sculpture, talks and performances from a wealth of contemporary artists. These include such famous names as Meredith Monk, Rachel Whiteread and Jerome Bel, many of whom will be giving talks to accompany the exhibits. The Sculpture Park is a popular additional attraction, and in 2013 will feature pieces by acclaimed artists such as Joan Miro, David Shrigley and British-Nigerian Yinka Shonibare, whose work speaks of cultural identity within a global context. In the films section, works will be presented by Erika Vogt, Petra Cortright and Patricia Lennox-Boyd among others.

Accompanying the standard exhibits is a series of works specifically commissioned for the Festival. These are known as the Frieze Projects and is under the leadership of the Serpentine Gallery’s Nicola Lees for 2013. The Emdash Foundation, which helps to support the Projects, also presents a prize, known as the Emdash Award.

For younger visitors, there is a Family Space, including a bespoke commission for 2013 known as the ‘Temple of Play’. Created by the Greek artist Angelo Plessas, the Temple is designed for children up to age 12 and features interactive exhibits, games, and creative play and workshops. Adults can of course enjoy the activities on offer too, all guided by hands-on experts and professionals.

Getting there

Located in Regent’s Park, the Festival is immediately accessible via the London public transport network, with the Regent’s Park tube station just five minutes’ walk from the exhibition and Baker Street also close by. St Pancras rail station is accessible by bus or train, and of course there is car parking on site. For national and overseas visitors, car hire in London is a great way to travel – the park is outside the Central London charging zone, and reachable in less than two hours from all the major airports including Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted.

Tickets

It’s advisable to grab your tickets in advance, as there are limited numbers for the exhibitions. Turning up and purchasing tickets on the day is possible but not recommended. Tickets can be purchased online, with prices for adults set at £32 per day, or £50 for both the main Festival and the Frieze Masters exhibitions. Concessions for students, juniors and OAPs are of course available, and group discounts are also on offer. Tickets can be printed at home and scanned at the gate to avoid any lengthy queues.

With its huge array of attractions, the Frieze Art Festival 2013 has something for everyone. Film buffs, art lovers and enthusiasts are well catered for, while young and old alike can enjoy the wide range of exhibits, films, performances and shows on offer.
