Facts, figures, and images from the Caribbean island of Curaçao.
And so, the travels continue: this lucky lady had the opportunity to spend some time in the beautiful Caribbean isle of Curaçao last week!
I was there on a press trip hosted by the Curaçao tourism board for 5 days and 4 nights and I have a ton of stories and pictures to share.
However, the burning question for most is: where the heck in the Caribbean is Curaçao exactly? And what makes this place unique as compared to the other islands?
As always, I got you. More Curaçao content is a-coming. In the meantime, here are a few facts:
-It’s the largest of 6 islands comprising what was once known as the Netherlands Antilles– it’s part of the Dutch Caribbean and its inhabitants have a Dutch passport.
-Natives are quite the talented linguists: they speak the local language (Papiamentu) alongside Dutch, English, and Spanish.
-There are only about 150,000 inhabitants in the whole country.
-Iguana is part of local cuisine! They are found all over the island!
-It’s known for its houses painted in all colours of the rainbow!
Of course, pictures speak louder than words, so here’s a brief video of me on one of Curaçao’s gorgeous beaches (there are over 35 in total).

We went to Curacao in 2015; chosen b/c of it’s lack of shark attacks (2015 had quite a few of those on the US east coast) and snorkeling. LOVE IT. We did not try iguana, but had plenty of “daily catch” and did some impromptu cliff jumping. We only made it to a couple of the local beaches and definitely plan on going back at some point.
