I’m in Hong Kong!
Long-time readers of the blog will know that I called this dynamic city home for nearly two years (see all my blog posts on Hong Kong here!). I haven’t been back since since I bid the city farewell in June 2011, and I can honestly say that I have missed it dearly. This is why I jumped on the chance to spend a week here after my trip to India.
Hong Kong is kind of a strange place: a crossroads of Eastern and Western ideologies, where neon signage clutters the skyline and where the crazy amount of skyscrapers sharply juxtapose green peaks and expansive harbours. The city is 95% ethnically Chinese and yet in the trendy districts of Mid-Levels and Soho a shocking amount of faces are Caucasian.
One thing that has me spellbound, even after living here for two years, are the streetscapes. There’s always something going on in the streets here, even wandering aimlessly about is interesting! I spent one afternoon wandering around the city centre and took a few photos.

I loved Hong Kong whe I went in 2006, but doesn’t matter how long I have lived in Asia for, I will never get used to the meat markets. 🙂

I had the best time ever!
I saw Hong Kong only for a sinlge day as a very long flight layover. Had lunch with some friends and wandered through the streets on the island. Such a wonderous place and feels so very bustly. I wonder what it would be like to stay for a while and look forward to going back. Thanks for the streetscapes.
Glad you enjoyed the photos, Andrew! There is something exciting about the city, the bustle and the skyscrapers and the water just makes it so beautiful. Wondrous is a great word to describe it. You must go back for a proper visit!
That’s great you were able to make it back to H.K. Oneika! I’ve been twice but it was back in 2001/2002 (got to ring in the Western New Year’s there) but definitely need a refresher trip. I remember loving the architecture there!
It is such an amazing city and has changed a lot since you’ve last been!! Definitely worth a third trip back. 🙂
