At a hype-ass hostel that is a MAJOR step up from the hostel I stayed in in Budapest. I have met a ton of people here who have travelled from near and far to scope out the far reaches of Europe, and have been able to tell me which cities have been hits, and alternatively, which cities have been misses. So, according to the real, living, breathing travellers (yes, the info straight from the horse`s mouth, so to speak- no guidebooks giving out-dated info, here!) Vienna is pretty much a miss, and I would do well to move on to a better destination, before going on to Prague. But where to go? I think I ll stay here two nights (doing a day trip into Bratislava, Slovakia), then move onward to Krakow, Poland, before heading into Prague, where Iäll stay for a couple nights before flying back to Nice.
The weather is absolutely horrible here (rain!), but upon stepping off of the train and wandering aimlessly along the wet, puddle-ridden street away from the train station, searching for a hostel (because of course, I didn´t reserve any accomodation beforehand, cuz I be´s hardcore like dat), I saw two strapping young men with backpacks who I immediately accosted. Turns out they were also looking for their hostel, so I tagged along with them and ended up getting a bed at this hostel, a real traveller´s mecca. We went for a lovely dinner (best food I ve had all week) and back to the hostel, which has it´s own bar. In the past few hours, I have met Australians, Americans, Canadians, Brits, Puerto Ricans, Irish, and Brazilians…crazy! I am loving the convivial atmosphere… Everyone has tips about where to go and what to do, everyone is trading stories about where they have been and where they are about to go… Some are travelling for weeks, others, months, and still others are doing weekend jaunts as they are studying/working abroad in other countries.
I love the “traveller´s network” and how like-minded we all are. An Australian girl, who I had been talking to for five minutes, extended and open invitation for me to come visit her and stay at her place in Australia! The Colombian guy I met yesterday is encouraging me to come to his home city, Bogota, to study Spanish. He says he´ll show me around when I get there. And I have had other similar experiences. As I type, all these people from different places are laughing around me, playing pool, talking about their various home countries and various life experiences, joking and sharing.
I feel so lucky to find myself here and to have the opportunity to do something like this!

I agree– Vienna wasn't my favorite city but its worth visiting for a couple days. It was B and my last vacation together before I moved back to the States and we ended up spending most of our 4 days at the baths in the countryside. But it sounds like you're having a blast with all your new friends. I love that about traveling solo! Enjoy!
One of my favorite things about traveling is finding like-minded individuals to converse with. Their eyes don't glaze over after a while as I go on and on about a travel adventure and I'm just as caught up listening to their stories. I ended up in Italy b/c a guy I met was so passionate about his country. He went on and on about how beautiful it was and the magnificence of the food. He ain't neva lied. It's one country I'd do twice more.
