Tripbase.com came up with the wonderful “My 7 Links” project, which allows nominated bloggers to dust off their archives and share their 7 designated posts with the http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifblogging community. When I saw this initiative featured on Suzy Guese’s rocking travel blog, I jumped at the opportunity to take part and she sent me an email with the relevant info as to how to participate.
I totally totally meant to post… And then life (read: a ridiculous amount of lectures, readings, and essay-writing) got in the way and I didn’t hold up on my end of the bargain.
Then, a couple days ago, the lovely and talented photographer Lola Akinmade nominated me, and thennnn the gorgeous Emily in Chile nominated me this morning!!
A sign that I needed to get my butt and gear and post my links?! Me thinks so.
And so, without any further ado, I present to you my 7 links (drumroll pleeease):
1) My Most Beautiful Post: Kenya and Tanzania- Long overdue photos
The reason I picked this post is not because the photos are particularly beautiful, because they are not. I’m actually kicking myself for not having had an amazing camera to capture all the beauty I saw around me. I chose this post because I just love the way it was written… And marvel at the fact that I wrote it within 10 mintues- the words just spilled out of me. I have a tendency to be long-winded but I think that post summed up my two week experience in East Africa perfectly.
2) My Most Popular Post: Shenzhen and the Shangri La and Random Travel Story #1: Nude Protest in Mexico City
These two posts get tons of hits a day! I can understand why me joining a gaggle of naked protesting men would get attention, but it boggles my mind why a post about my weekend stay in a hotel in Southern China would garner so much attention.
3) My Most Controversial Post: You should be ashamed
My open letter to Pond’s beauty product supplier regarding their questionable practice of selling skin bleaching creams in Asia got 29 comments on the blog, a record! My other most controversial post was my post about the 9 things you should know before coming to Asia. It got major retweets on Twitter and a number of people were majorly ticked off at what I had to say!
4) My Most Helpful Post: A tie between my Travel Tips and my How to Teach Abroad vlog
I get about an email a week asking me how I can afford to travel so much and/or how to break into teaching abroad.
5) A Post Whose Success Surprised Me: My “Quality” Websites
My post about the non-cerebral (read: frivolous and trashy) websites I read on my downtime got wayyyy more of a response than I ever imagined!! Glad to know I’m not alone!
6) A Post I Feel didn’t get the Attention it Deserved: All’s well that ends well
My moving story didn’t get a lot of hits or comments, which is too bad because it is hilarious. At least to me. LOL!
7) The Post that I am Most Proud of: An afternoon exploring Lembongan, Bali by scooter
My post on Lembongan was loooooong and I actually spent a good amount of time writing it. While it was recognized, I thought it would get a lot more comments because if nothing else, the pics are stunning!
