Blogger = FAIL.
You blogspot folks out there probably know what I’m talking about, but for those readers out there who (smartly) host their blogs elsewhere, or for those readers who don’t blog, here’s the skinny: for the last 24 hours(!) Blogger/blogspot has been having major issues. I realized there was a cock-up when I couldn’t sign into my blog. Then I tried to post a comment on someone else’s blog and got an error message that the blog was only read-only and I wasn’t allowed to comment. What the heck?!? A quick perusal of Twitter gave me the bad news: Blogger was jacked up, and there was no real estimation as to when it’d be running again.
That’s weak, Blogger.
To make matters worse, I come on here, overjoyed that Blogger is up and running again, only to see that my latest blog post is missing/ has been removed! Again, WTH??! Do you KNOW how long it took me to upload the pictures on that one, dear readers? My internet connection here in Hong Kong is struggling, at best. The post was pretty lengthy as well, and I actually took the time to proof-read it, instead of just posting on here haphazardly as I usually do! AAargh!
You know the cartoons where the dude has smoke coming out of his ears? Well yeah, that’s totally me right now. Blogger, you. will. pay. *shakes fist at Blogger*
Lately I been thinking of taking my business elsewhere (well, not like I pay for this site or anything, but you get what I mean) and marching myself over to the slick and shiny WordPress. But pure laziness has kept me here. Maybe I should reconsider.
It’s just a little disconcerting to know that I’ve basically got my whole life on here (well, not my WHOLE life, but six years of randomness and musings counts for something) and it could potentially be erased with the inadvertent click of a mouse or a virus or something. These posts on here only exist virtually- they are no where else.
Anyway, just wanted to get that off my chest (whew! I feel better!) but I’m not going to waste any more time writing this because Blogger will probably just lose the post anyway.
Have any of my blogging or commenting friends out there gotten screwed by Blogger? Did the Blogger breakdown put the kibosh on some of your blogging activity? Come on out and share with a comment on this tragedy (yes, I’m fully aware I’m being over dramatic)- that is, if you’re even able to comment.

I concur about WordPress – but again at the end of the day it's best to self-host and pay the fee so you control things. The issue is using subdomains. Tumblr was down earlier this week and for those whose blogs are hosted by these sites, you are at their mercy.

I disagree. I hate WordPress. I had a blog on Blogger for 2 years when I was nataliegoestomacau. I got really pissed when Google bought it and made me get a Google account so that I could continue to use my own damn blog. So when I became nataliegoestomacau I decided to use WordPress. Now I haven't lost a post, but WordPress is so limited. You can only add the 3 or 4 widgets they provide. And the photo uploading is convoluted and annoying. I don't think you'd like it over here. But I think your only other choice is to self host, and that means building from scratch. In other words there are no GREAT choices. Sorry.
I had a WordPress blog and hated it… yeah Blogger had issues yesterday and it is working on them. This was the first time in 6 years of using Blogger that I have ever had this issue.
Yes, this was me today. It made me take a blogging break. I am totally thinking about WordPress now. I'd love to hear/see pros and cons list of why WordPress is better.

it was very frustrating! i certainly will be backing up the blog. use that export tab to do it; i hear it's easy to do. i tried wordpress and was not a fan at all and should def self host but i am so not saavy so for now blogger i remain.
btw, everyone i know whose posts got lost got them recovered, though not the comments.
1) I would highly suggest that you backup all your posts. You can do so by downloading the entire blog. (The help section should tell you how to do that.)
2) I just started a blog on Tumblr and I love it! it is VERY user friendly 🙂
WordPress wordpress, so nice I said it twice. I will never look back! I saw that you had written a new post on my old blog and when I clicked it said error.
When I started wordpress I was unsure mostly because it was new but once you get used to how it is done, it's fast and user friendly. I don't know why you would hate it but that has not been my experience. In terms of uploading pictures I think it is easy. Once they are uploaded they stay in a media gallery so you never have to upload it again. Also editing after you've already posted has a couple options. I mostly moved to wordpress because it looks way more streamlined that options with blogger. However, I am not that techy and I have seen blogs on blogspot that look amazing. If you care about clogging up your page with widgets then I guess wordpress may be a bit limited but there are a lot of choices with what they do have. Goodluck with whatever you choose!

I'm with you on this one. I don't blog daily, but I wanted to and couldn't. I too don't want to lose the years of randomness I've posted on here to more elsewhere. But I agree with Alida that this is the first time Blogger has done this in my experience.
Yep, it removed a post I'd written as well as a few comments; Probably smart to backup. Must look into that. The same day I really start backing up all my photos, too, right?! I guess it shows us Blogger is fallible like the rest of us, and there are people behind all those templates and interfaces.
