By now, most of you have heard about the tragic stampede that took place on Monday in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. As you already know, I spent this past week in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, Cambodia, acting as a teacher supervisor on a school field trip. For those of you who have expressed concern about my safety, thank you for inquiring about me! I am, in fact, safe and sound in Hong Kong; we left Phnom Penh on Sunday evening- just one day before this unfortunate incident.
We got back into Phnom Penh on Saturday afternoon via speedboat. The atmosphere was gay in Cambodia’s capital, with the Water Festival drawing HUGE crowds. Our tour bus had many difficulties trying navigate even the widest avenues as there were people/cars/tuk tuks EVERYWHERE. Me and the other teacher supervisors briefly flirted with the idea of bringing the students to the festival, but the large crowds and horrendous traffic made us realize it probably wasn’t the best idea… And in retrospect…Thank goodness.

Poor Cambodia. Let’s hope that they pull through. It is such a lovely country with beautiful people.

Wow, I can breath a little easy knowing that one of my favorite bloggers is safe! It really is tragic because no one really even knows how or WHY it started. WHen I told my mom what happened she said things like this is the reason why its not so crazy to avoid big crowds and stay indoors.
