A Picture Paints A Thousand Words…

BY ONEIKA RAYMOND

My days in France are numbered. There are 1 and a half days left, in fact.
The people in my program (and those living in the student residences) are packing up, drinking it up, and hooking up (you’d be surprised how comfortable people get with their crushes when they realize they’ll never see them again, lol).

The last few days have been spent partying, saying goodbye, and spending copious amounts of time on beach, regardless of what time it is (case in point- I was out on the beach hanging out with people til damn near 2 in the morning). Tomorrow is the last day of classes, and on Wednesday I fly back to Toronto.

The goodbye is bittersweet. While I am frankly tired of the early morning and late afternoons at school, living out of a suitcase (because I never really unpacked in my month of being here), cooking in the tiny “kitchen” in my room (read: two burners and a mini-fridge), being surrounded by a few “questionable” people who I never would have rolled with back home, constantly running into my ex-boyfriend (who still lives in Nice and works at the school where I’m taking classes this summer- the horror!), the interminable humidity and heat, and the high cost of living here, I will miss being here A LOT. I still feel that I would really like to move back to France to settle down after my contract in Hong Kong is finished in two years.

But at the same time, I am getting itchy feet and feeling ready to experience something new. As for what awaits in Hong Kong, I’m not exactly sure. But I am ready.

So to resume, good times were had here all around, and pictures will probably do a better job of showing you what life was like here than my descriptions ever could.
Nissa la bella, I will miss you, and to be honest, I’m not sure when (or if) I’ll ever return. But thank you.

And, of course, a huge thanks goes out to all the people I met here in Nice who made this trip unreal.
