Call it cliche, call it corny, but I adore Paris. This past August, I took a night time stroll to the Eiffel Tower and fell head over heels- again- with the City of Light.
When I was planning my massive summer travel itinerary and Eurail provided me with a Global Rail pass so I could discover the joys of train travel, I knew with an unshakeable certainty that Paris would figure somewhere on my travel list. It had to. I decided that Paris would be the last stop on my European and Middle Eastern tour. So after running with the bulls in Spain, floating in the Dead Sea in Israel and Jordan, and exploring Scandinavia and the Baltics, I embarked on my Eurail trip, making stops in Slovenia, Switzerland, the tiny nation of Liechtenstein, and Paris.
You see, I decided to save the best for last.
Paris is the most touristy place on earth- it swarms with foreign visitors at all times of the year. Paris is expensive, and loud, and the customer service is often terrible. Accommodation is tiny, non-smoking restaurants smell suspiciously of smoke, and, like London, the skies are often grey and weather uncooperative.
But Paris’ defaults still don’t quite manage to detract from its glory. I’ve been to Paris 8 times and I still feel the magic.
My first night of this trip I was drawn, as always, to the Eiffel Tower. When I was in Paris last winter with Liebling, we also made our way to the Eiffel Tower and took silly pictures. It’s the most touristy place ever but for me it has some sort of magnetic pull- I’m inexplicably compelled to visit the iconic monument every time I’m in Paris. Especially in the evening. The way the tower is lit up is nothing short of dazzling.
Anyone else love Paris as much as I do?

I traveled via Eurail on a day trip (I was leaving London the next day) to Paris in 2001. I loved it. I can’t wait to come back to Europe and Paris specifically.

I absolutely love, love, LOVE Paris! J’adore Paris! It has got to be one of my favourite cities, if not the most favourite! I first visited in May 2006 and I visited it both during the day and at night. I sat at the bottom and waited for the lights to go off at the top of the hour….it almost made me cry and I’m not ashamed to admit it! I was lucky enough to take my mom there in January and she loved it too. We went ice skating on the 2nd level and had my birthday dinner there at Le Jules Verne (best dinner of my life!). Every time I see it, it still gives me a thrill. I plan numerous trips to Paris when I’m living out of London next year!

I took a lot of pictures at the Eiffel tower last August when I finally made there. In fact I went back several times in hopes of getting to the top floor of the tower, but alas we were late all 3 times 🙁 A huge bummer, but nonetheless it was worth going to see the Eiffel and having adventures doing it each time. I was startled though that one young guy (aged perhaps 16 or so) a great photographer too. Told me he was a native Parisian but it was his first time visiting the Eiffel because it is expensive to get inside. So sad, but nonetheless he made it and I am sure one day I will make it to the TOP of the Eiffel too 🙂
OH and beautiful-silly-fun pics ! Nothing wrong with those, I have some jumping in front of Eiffel too, lol!
Oh no! To be honest, though, I’m not that enthralled with the view from the top! I much prefer looking at the Tower from below.. 🙂
I regret to say I’ve never been to Paris hehe! France yes, to Nice and Strasbourg, but Paris never. Yes I bet it is extremely touristy and maybe cheesy but it looks sooo dreamy and magical! And your pics prove me right 🙂
You HAVE TO HAVE TO go. And that’s an order!! I love Nice (I lived there for a year), but it doesn’t compare!

Great shots of the tower! No matter how much I rag on Paris, I’m always filled with a bit of awe when I see the Eiffel Tower in front of me. It’s sometimes hard to believe that this Canadian girl from a small town is standing in front of something so well-known in one of the most touristy places in the world. A trip to Paris for me means a stop to at least Trocadero to say hi to the tower 🙂

I too love it.I use to live about a 10 minute walk away on Rue de Babylone. Often I walked there at night listening to my Walkman, :)).. at the time! I never tired of it. I too will always go no matter how many times I travel to Paris, even if my stay is short!
I don’t think that it is always touristy, from the beginning of November on there are very few tourist..
Lately, that’s the time when I seem to get here Nov/Dec.

I love Paris! I stayed in Paris for a week and after I came home I changed my major to international Business with a language concentration in French 🙂 So Paris has definitely changed my life so far 🙂
