The last few weeks I’ve been getting around (no, not like that, gutter-brain).
Geographically, I mean. Ever since I finished up my contract teaching middle and high school kids in London in mid-February, I have been travelling non-stop. Case in point: today, I’m writing this post to you from London. But yesterday I was in Paris. And tomorrow, I am off to Egypt.
Confused yet? I have been dutifully posting my whereabouts on my Facebook page, but realize that I have been a bit remiss about posting updates here, on the blog.
Maintaining a travel blog whilst travelling the globe like a madwoman is tough (jus’ saying). I’m always a bit conflicted because while I probably should be writing more about, say, Zurich, while I’m actually there, the truth is that I’m too busy having a great time to think about sitting down in front of the computer to bang out a post on… well… what a great time I’m having in Zurich.
And then, when I finally do park myself in front of a computer, I have such a resulting back log of travel narrative that I can barely keep up with reporting my adventures, never mind posting them in sequential order (yeah, so last week’s post on Zurich? I actually went last August).
Which probably leaves you, the reader, a tad discombobulated.
So, if you care, here’s a fairly sequential timeline of where I’ve been in the last little while.
December/January: Toronto
I spent three weeks in North America over the Christmas holidays and two of those were in my hometown of Toronto. I visited with friends and family so didn’t really take any pictures, but was THRILLED to meet up with bloggers Kisha from Chronicled Blog and Brenna from This Battered Suitcase.
December/January: New York City
I spent a week in NYC and rang in the new year in a club with my best friends. Again, I didn’t take many pictures, but above is a semi-indulgent pic of what I ended up wearing on New Year’s. I actually met up for breakfast one morning with Youtube celebrity Chescaleigh(!) but didn’t want to totally fangirl her and ask for a photo so I don’t have any digital documentation of our date. Phooey.
February: Berlin
In February I spent a weekend in Berlin to celebrate Liebling’s birthday! His friends got him a funny gag gift, a travel pillow in the shape of a sausage and an eye mask in the form of a bacon strip. Very German… 😉
February/March: India & Hong Kong
I’ve written a few blogs already on my experiences there (see my India posts and my Hong Kong posts), but there is still a lot more I haven’t written about!
March: Barcelona
Last weekend Liebling and I went to Barcelona and immersed ourselves in Gaudi’s impressive architectural works. I’m planning on doing a “48 hours in Barca” guide a some point. Barcelona is cool, but I still prefer Madrid!
March: Paris
I always have to take advantage of a good travel deal, so when I found cheap tickets on the Eurostar for Paris I didn’t stutter. I paid $89 USD for a round-trip train ticket and spent this past Monday and Tuesday in the City of Lights.
And there you have it, where I’ve been in the last while. Awesome? Yes. Tiring? Absolutely. But so so fun.
Next up: Egypt
I have some great travel lined up in the next few months as well. I alluded to most of it in this post, but I have since added some destinations to the list, which I’ve revealed in the “Where I’m Going” sidebar on the right column of the blog.
The big impending trip is Egypt, where we head tomorrow. We’ll be spending 10 days in Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan, and I think that, along with the typical blogs with pictures and info, I might actually write a post on our budget, since lots of people wonder just how much a trip like this would cost. Would you guys be interested in that?

I just got back from home (US Virgin Islands), currently in Stateside (Atlanta), will be off to London and Florence in May, and hopefully Mexico in the Fall.

Budget info? Yes please. As many posts as you see necessary (lol), with emphasis on student budget. How were you able to do your masters and still travel? Do you know other traveling students getting their masters and/or Phd? How do they manage their budgets?
Reading your blog every now and again reminds me to keep traveling, buy those cheap tickets and get to the airport. I’m headed to Taiwan tomorrow, Japan in May and after reading your blog decided to add a trip to Hong Kong before I leave Korea. Moving to Myanmar in July and I can’t wait. Thanks for the blog, reminding women of every age and nationality that travel is possible.

Safe travels to Egypt!
I am keeping my fingers crossed for my visa to Belarus in May, so I can see Minsk and former castles of Great Duchy of Lithuania (we used to own them, now we need a visa to go, being a colonial person hurts a bit). I went to Berlin for their ITB show. I am going to Provence in June. I also have plans for food fair in Poznan (Poland), London WTM, Edinburgh and Bass Rock, Kyiv and Crimea….oh, I need more days in a year to see them all.
So glad to hear you’re heading to Egypt! I’ve lived there, traveled there and just left the Sinai a week and a half ago. Cairo is electrifying and Upper Egypt is fabulous. I trust you’ll love it!
Eeeek! I LOOK TERRIBLE in that photo! Further proof I need to wear concealer more – dark under eye circles much? Gah! But, let me forgot about myself for a moment and say how CUTE you and Brenna look! Was SO nice to meet you finally!! I haven’t been to Toronto, Berlin, India or Hong Kong, I lived in France and Spain but I love Barcelona more than Madrid (maybe because I lived in Barcelona and fell in love there…aaawww). I was in awe of the beauty in Egypt, I’m planning a trip to Dubai, going to do some quick trips to a few spots here in the US and planning to spend a month or so in South America, I think I’ve settled on Santiago, Chili. I hear ya, it’s really tough travelling and posting your adventures while still on the road! You want to enjoy when you’re off n’ about, not thinking about work!! This May I’ll be travelling around Italy to work with some of the tourism boards there and I’m promising myself to post each day while there! Then Toronto for TBEX in June! I’m hoping to make it back to France again this year and in the fall I hope to start my journey in voluntourism!
